Siena is one of Italy’s loveliest medieval cities built across hills and valleys. Siena’s heart is its central piazza known as Il Campo, which is both a meeting place and market place. It is also world renown for the “Palio” festival and horse race. Your journey continues as you travel to the picturesque San Gimignano surrounded by the splendid Tuscan countryside. It is a city of beautiful medieval towers, rich in history, art, and culture. From there you will have an overnight stay in the Montecatini area.

Day 4 Pisa

Pisa

Today you will travel to Pisa to witness the amazing leaning tower. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is famous for its unintended tilt. The height of one side being 186 ft while the other side measures at 183 ft. This bell towers tilt began during construction in 1173, caused by a foundation too soft on one side to properly support the structures weight. The tilt increased over the decades of construction. It was finally stabilized and partially corrected in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. You will then travel to the Venice area for your overnight stay.

Day 5 Venice

Venice

This day of continued awe begins with a boat trip to the magical city of Venice. This fascinating city on a lagoon is one of the most lovely and interesting places in the world. Venice is traveled by boat on its waterways rather than by cars on roads. It encompasses 118 islands separated by more than 150 canals. Now as you stand in the Piazza San Marco, you will find yourself entranced by the Basilica of St. Mark, one of the world’s most magnificent churches. You will tour the Basilica to admire it’s treasure of marble and gold-background mosaics. You will also be drawn to the charming pink and white Doges’ Palace. You will have a chance to feel the sad romance of the Bridge of Sighs before a free afternoon. When your day is done you will enjoy another overnight stay in the Venice area.

Day 6 Florence

Florence

Florence is an elegant city nestled between hills and the banks of the Arno River. While in Florence you will have time to enjoy strolling through open air markets and relax by the beautiful gardens. Everything your eyes will see is a showcase for Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance grandeur. Among the wealth of masterpieces to be found in Florence, you’ll see the Piazza della Signoria with its Neptune Fountain and Vecchio Palace, the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. You will then have an overnight in the Florence area.

Day 7 Assisi

Assisi

Today, you will journey to the charming medieval town of Assisi, which was the home of St. Francis. Two years after his death, the large Basilica of the town was started in his memory. The ground on which the church stands was at one time an execution ground for condemned criminals. This is where St. Francis asked to be buried and is now known as the Hill of Paradise. St. Francis’ tomb and many great works of art are inside the Basilica. After your day in Assisi, you will have an overnight stay in the Rome area.

Day 8 Ancient Rome

Ancient Rome

The city of Rome is more rich with history throughout than any other city. This day will allow you to explore many of the wonders of ancient Rome such as the magnificent Colosseum, Mamertine Prison and the Pantheon. From the most sacred hill of ancient Rome, Campidoglio, you will get to see the Forum, the Circus Maximus, the Arch of Titus, the famous Baths of Caracalla and the Arch of Constantine. You will also view the Victor Emanuel and the Monti Region, Rome’s most ancient neighborhood which spreads over three of her seven hills. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to experience for yourself why Rome is also known as the “City of Love”. You feel the romance of Rome as you climb the graceful Spanish Steps and stop at the famous Trevi Fountain. Overnight in Rome.

Day 9 Vatican City / Christian Rome

Vatican City / Christian Rome

Today, you will embrace the glory of Christian Rome as you visit the Vatican, home to one of the greatest museums in the world.
